Dangerous Products - Defective Hip Implants

Depuy Orthopedics has issued a recall on its ASR Hip Resurfacing System and the ASR XL Acetabular System. This recall comes after years of published reports, studies and data indicating that the device is defective and failing in patients. The defective ASR hip systems have been implanted in a total of about 93,000 patients. The recall was issued because of the alarming number of complaints and high revision surgery rate for the devices. DePuy statistics show that approximately 12% of patients who had received the ASR resurfacing device and 13% of patients who had received the ASR total hip replacement needed to have a revision surgery. Often times these patients undergo a painful revision surgery that would not be necessary but for the defective DePuy hip systems. Additionally, data suggests that many of these hips are experiencing excessive wear along the edge of the cup and that this is causing large amounts of metal debris to show up in the blood of individuals who have received these hips. If you or a loved one are having problems after a hip implant surgery, contact us immediately for a free case evaluation.
